FIRST COMPLETED RECONNECTING RUNCORN PROJECT SEES NEW CREATIVE HUB OPEN

May 22, 2023

The first Reconnecting Runcorn project – the renovation and refurbishment of 71 High Street – has been completed.

The Grade II Listed Building, is now the new home to Hazlehurst Studios, who have recently taken tenancy of the building, expanding from next door at 73a High Street.

The sympathetic refurbishment has seen original external features kept, while internally the renovations have delivered bright open spaces ideal for artists, workshops and exhibitions.

Hazlehurst Studios, currently run by volunteers, opened its doors on Wednesday 19th April 2023, welcoming Gail Louise Jewellery as their first tenant and artist in residence.

Gail Louise Jewellery has created a beautiful bespoke jewellery school within her space and plans to welcome people into her workshop by providing an extensive programme of activities.

Hazlehurst Studios will be developing a wider programme of events, exhibitions and workshops over the next few months and will be hosting an official opening on Friday 9 June.

The Chairman of the Runcorn Town Deal Board, Adrian Fillingham said “It is great to see the first Reconnecting Runcorn project delivered, allowing Hazlehurst Studios to expand and provide the people of Runcorn with more opportunities to demonstrate their creative skills.

“It’s fantastic to see this High Street building brought back to life and I look forward to seeing the continued transformation of the town centre as the other Reconnecting Runcorn projects progress.”

Reconnecting Runcorn is an ambitious set of seven projects that collectively will improve the lives and livelihoods of local people and boost the local economy. In July 2021, it was announced that £23.6m had been allocated from the Government’s Town’s Fund to deliver the Runcorn Town Investment Plan. Under the banner of ‘Reconnecting Runcorn’ this plan outlines a set of seven ambitious projects, suggested by local people, businesses, community groups, and the local authority.
