£20 Million Pride in Place Investment Set to Transform Runcorn Over the Next Decade

Nov 14, 2025

Runcorn is set for a further major transformation thanks to £20 million of new funding through the Pride in Place programme. This investment, led, supported and welcomed by Halton Borough Council and the Runcorn Town Neighbourhood Board, will build on the incredible progress already made and create fresh opportunities for the community.

As part of the Pride in Place Fund, Runcorn will receive up to £20 million over the next decade. This funding will help continue to bring new life to the town centre, enhance public spaces, support local projects, and create a vibrant environment for residents and visitors alike.

The investment will support local entrepreneurs, boost cultural attractions to increase visitor appeal, and help residents access jobs and early years training. Communities will also benefit from initiatives to bring empty or derelict properties back into use, influence the design of public spaces and high streets, and see historic buildings refurbished into vibrant community hubs. This programme is about building stronger, thriving communities and empowering residents to shape the future of Runcorn. Further community consultation and engagement is set to take place with Runcorn residents to help the projects take shape.

Local resident, Councillor Norman Plumpton Walsh said “We’re excited to work closely with residents to make sure this investment reflects what our community truly wants. Together, we’ll create spaces and projects that bring people together and celebrate everything that makes Runcorn special. I can’t wait to see the further transformation this funding will create for Runcorn in the coming years. All of this together will continue to help put Runcorn on the map.

Executive Board Member for Corporate Services, Councillor Mark Dennett, added “This funding is a game-changer for Runcorn. It builds on the fantastic progress we’ve already made, from the Towns Fund and opens the door to even more opportunities for our community. Over the next decade, we’ll see Runcorn transformed even more, into a place we can all be proud of.”

Next steps will be announced in the coming months. For updates and ways to get involved, visit reconnectingruncorn.info.
